Jacob Diaz
Civil Engineer,
Site to Structure
Independent civil engineering practice covering roadworks, drainage, grading, and structural site assessment — from feasibility through construction sign-off.
Personal history & background
Several years on site and behind the drawing board, now running an independent practice built on both.
I'm Jacob Diaz, an independent civil engineer based in New York, United States. My work sits at the intersection of design and buildability — I spent the first half of my career on site as a resident engineer before moving into consultancy, which is why I still think in terms of sequencing, access, and tolerances, not just drawings.
I set up on my own in 2003 after 4 years with Nova Construction Services, wanting to work directly with clients and contractors rather than through layers of a large practice. Today I take on a small number of projects at a time — enough to give each one proper attention, from initial feasibility right through to as-built certification.
Outside of active projects, I stay involved in [professional body], and I'm a regular reviewer for [local planning authority / institution] on drainage and highways submissions.
